Alternative: Bin Cages

Bin Cages are made using plastic totes. In order to make them suitable homes ventialation must be added. This can be done by either cutting holes in the top and securing hardware cloth over it. Or drilling small holes along the top. Bin cages have the benefit of being light weight, stackable, and cheap. However, care must be taken to ensure that your cage is escape proof. Being made out of plastic, if gerbils find a place to sink their teeth into they can easily chew a hole to escape from.
