Use the wire cutters to the hard ware cloth so that it fits diagonally across the cage. The hard ware cloth needs to come all the way to the top to prevent the gerbils from crawling over the top. You may need to cut the corners off the top for it to fit under the rim.
Place two water bottle on each side of the cage. Do not add an hides. Chew toys are okay. Keep the tank bare with a shallow layer of bedding.
Follow the Split-Cage Method instructions for introducing gerbils to eachother.
Gerbils can easily crawl over and under the mesh, which could be dangerous if the gerbils meet too early. |
Run the hard ware cloth diagonally across the tank.
Make sure the tank is simple with food and water. Avoid placing and wheels, hides, or large objects. Small chew toys and toilet paper rolls are ok.
