DIET:
Blocks $15+
There are a few manufacturer’s of “Squirrel Diets”. Brisky Pet Products “Flying Squirrel Diet”, Exotic Nutrition’s “Squirrel Deluxe”, and Henry’s Healthy Pets “Squirrel Blocks.” Blocks should be the bulk of their diet. Mazuri Rat and Mouse is adequate.
Seed Mix $10+
A fruit and vegetable seed mix for parrots is appropriate, avoid Kaytee brands. I like Goldenfeast Petite Hookbill Formula, and Sunseed Vita Plus Hookbill.

Cage $200
Minimum of 8 cubic feet. The cage needs to have narrow bar spacing 5/8" or less. Must have metal tray, or wire bottom. Plastic trays can be chewed. Removable trays must be secure, squirrels may slide them open. I recommend cages with seed guards.

Water Bottle $12
Lixit makes a wonderful bottle that is leak proof and is safe for a young flying squirrel. As babies they can be overwhelmed by large water droplets from a regular type water bottle and can inhale liquid causing them to drown.

Scatterless Feeder $13
I recommend getting a scatterless feeder. Often my squirrels will pee in almost anything i get them that i intend to be used as a food bowl. That said, the Scatter-less feeder, doubles as a place to "potty train" your squirrel.

Hopper $10
Hoppers like this one allow urine to drain. It will need frequent cleaning, do not load the hopper with more than one day of food. Squirrels will dig out all the food while searching for all their favorites.

Licks $2-3
A salt and mineral lick should always be provided

Toys: $15+
I recommend at least two perches with bark on them, a Cuttle bone, and other bird type toys for gnawing and shredding. Bird toys with shell, bone, or antler make good toys for keeping teeth trim, as well as pumice/lava stone. Examples below |
